Akira has born in 18 April 1971 at Higashi-Murayama, Tokyo Japan.
Supported and encouraged by his father who had been an racing fan, Akira started his career as a jockey for Japan Racing Association (JRA) in 1990.
As a jockey, Akira has ridden in 3,186 races including 218 wins.(including 222 races with 26 wins in steeplechase races)
Akira has won two graded stakes races, which are, Chukyo Jump Stakes (Steeplechase Grade 3) on Kinsen Arashi at Chukyo Racecourse in 1994 and Musashino Stakes (Grade 3) on Sanford City at Tokyo Racecourse in 2000.
As a jockey, Akira was belonging to trainers Yoshimi Saito, Shoichi Matsumoto, Makoto Osawa and Kunihide Matsuda. In 2007, Akira retired from a jockey and turned to an assistant trainer for Japanese leading trainer Katsuhiko Sumii.
In 2008, he is granted with a trainer's license from JRA. He started operating THE A-TEAM in September 2008.

In 1996, He joined the JRA overseas training program in England, France and Ireland, where he has ridden in two races.
Akira has experienced training under successful foreign trainers including Kiaran McLaughlin in Belmont Park NY USA in 2006 and 2008.
