What's New

THE A-TEAM's champion Copano Rickey(7yo horse Gold Allure x Copano Nikita) marked his name in Japanese racing's record book as he scored 10th Grade 1 victory when he won the JPY45,000,000 Local Grade 1 Mile Championship Nambu Hai at NAR's Morioka Racecourse on 9 Oct. He is the second horse to win 10 Grade 1 races in Japan's racing history after his long time rival Hokko Tarumae.
His new carrer has been annouced as Copano Rickey goes into the Breeders Stallion Station for 2018 breeding season. THE A-TEAM is pleased to see off a new stallion who is extremely likely to be highly attractive for the breeders seeking for dirt stallion by long time champion sire of dirt Gold Allure. But all our hope with Copano Rickey at this stage is if he sets the new record of 11th Grade 1 win in his remaining carrer with THE A-TEAM.

After four out-of-form runs, THE A-TEAM once again welcomed our long-reigning champion Copano Rickey(7yo Stallion, Gold Allure x Copano Nikita) with the owner Dr. Copa in the JPY60,000,000 Local Grade 1 Kashiwa Kinen (dirt 1600 mteres at NAR's Funabashi Racecourse). He was not the one of the fastest at the start which is not usual for him but Jockey Yutaka Take was relaxed to sit behind the pacesetters. At the far turn Copano Rickey cruised from the outside to win by 2 lengths. This was the 9th Grade 1 title for Copano Rickey, which is now only 1 below the Japanese record of grade 1 wins set by his long time rival Hokko Tarumae.

Thank you for visiting the website of THE A-TEAM.
We started our operation in 21 September 2008, and we are coming into our 10th year with winning 12 Grade 1 wins, 4 Grade 2 wins and 11 Grade 3 wins in JRA and NAR races as of today.
THE A-TEAM is satisfying with what we have done together with our clients and fans but we are eagerly looking for further success in the future.
Akira Murayama, trainer of THE A-TEAM has started an associated work with proven sale consignors in Eddie Woods in Ocala, USA and Yamaguchi Stable in Urakawa, Japan from last year to improve our skills in training and nutritional control. We hope to produce horses competing in the world stages like Maurice.
Our ultimate desire in a new decade for us is to produce a horse who wins multiple grade one races and completes his/her career undefeated.
Again, we appreciate your continuous support for THE A-TEAM.

THE A-TEAM's new star All Blush(5yo horse War Emblem x Blushing Princess) surpassed last year's JRA Best Dirt Horse Sound True by three lengths to grab his first graded stakes victory in the JPY60,000,000 Kawasaki Kinen at NAR's Kawasaki Racecourse (Local Grade 1, dirt 2100 metres). Jockey Christophe Lemaire's masterful riding tactics guided All Blush to take an early lead in a long distance race and the pair was never threghtened by others to lead all the way to catch a big title.

THE A-TEAM's Grade 1 winning sprinter Danon Legend(6yo horse Macho Uno x My Goodness) will join the stallion roster of the East Stud in Urakawa, Japan for the 2017 breeding season. With career record of 14 wins including 9 in the graded stakes, Danon Legend earned more than JPY 3.6 billion (approx USD 3.6 million).
Danon Legend will be the first stallion standing in Japan from Holy Bull - Macho Uno sire line, already a proven pedigree in the US giving plenty of speed to their progenies. Being well apart from Japan's dominant pedigrees enables Danon Legend an ideal mating options for the most of Japanese broodmares. THE A-TEAM strongly hopes future stallion success for Danon Legend.

THE A-TEAM's Danon Legend(6yo horse Macho Uno x My Goodness) was the fastest to break from the barrier 1 to lead all the way to win his first Grade 1 title in the JPY60,000,000 JBC Sprint (dirt, 1400 meters) at NAR's Kawasaki Racecourse. Already a winner of eight graded stakes, Danon Legend gifted THE A-TEAM the first JBC Sprint victory which he was defeated in second placing last year. Danon Legend was purchased by the owner Danox Co Ltd at US$385,000 in the Barretts March Sale where he was consigned by the Eddie Woods, Agent. His total earnings to date now exceeds JPY360,000,000 (approx US$ 3.6 millions).

It was a first Mile Championship Nambu Hai victory for THE A-TEAM's champion Copano Rickey(6yo horse Gold Allure x Copano Nikita) but as well as an incredible 8th win in the Grade 1 when he thrashed the rivals at NAR's Morioka Racecourse on 10 Oct. He was hugely supported at 4-5 favourite on a premier dirt event and again he has proven his position as Japan's top dirt horse in 1 3/4 length victory against Best Warrior and Hokko Tarumae. He clocked an unbelievable new track record 1:33:5.
Copano Rickey

THE A-TEAM's Danon Legend carried a challenging 60 kilograms in the JPY23,000,000 Local Grade 3 Cluster Cup at NAR's Morioka Racecourse in 16 Aug. Punters were still eager to support him to be 3-2 second favourite although carrying top weight which is 6 kilograms heavier than the most of the others.
The race went very tough for him as others made great deal of speed in the early stage. However at the top of the stretch the one who still something left in the tank was Danon Legend who scored back to back Cluster Cup victory by 2 lengths. This was the eighth graded stakes trophy for Danon Legend reaching his career earnings to be over JPY 3 billions (approx US$ 3 millions).
Danon Legend

Quite similar to what he has shown in his last start Kashiwa Kinen (Local Grade 1), THE A-TEAM's champion dirt performer Copano Rickey(6yo horse Gold Allure x Copano Nikita) once again showed a dominating 3 and a half length victory in the JPY60,000,000 Teio Sho (Local Grade 1) over 2,000 metres on dirt at NAR's Ohi Racecourse. This race was a extremely competitive battle as most of Japan's top dirt horses such as Nonkono Yume, Sound True and Hokko Tarumae were in the field but Copano Rickey impressively won by a clear margin. This was Copano Rickey's 7th grade 1 win but was a first one in the Teio Sho, which is regarded as one of the Japan's most prestigious dirt race.
Copano Rickey

THE A-TEAM's speedstar Danon Legend(6yo horse Macho Uno x My Goodness) secured his position as one of Japan's top sprinter when he won the JPY 2,200,000 Hokkaido Sprint Cup (Local Grade 3) over 1,200 metres on dirt at NAR's Monbetsu Racecourse. The race was like a two-horse race against a talented young sprinter Nobo Baccarat but Danon Legend never given away to win by a smallest margin. This was a 11th victory in his superb career with 7 among them being graded stakes.

THE A-TEAM's champion dirt horse Copano Rickey(6yo horse Gold Allure x Copano Nikita) outclassed a star-studded field in the JPY60,000,000 Kashiwa Kinen (Dirt 1600 maters Local Grade 1) in the NAR's Funabashi Racecourse on 5 May 2016. He once again proved at a highest level to grab his 6th Grade 1 titles. The owner Dr. Copa and THE A-TEAM now are aiming at running Copano Rickey in the Breeder's Cup Dirt Mile (Dirt 1600 maters Grade 1) on 4 November at Santa Anita USA. If it came realistic it will be the first attempt in overseas Grade 1 races from THE A-TEAM.
Copano Rickey

One year has past since THE A-TEAM's Danon Legend(6yo horse Macho Uno x My Goodness) was celebrated by warm fans in Kochi. He again showed a great performance to grab back-to-back victory in the JPY21,000,000 local Grade 3 Kurofune Sho (Dirt 1400 meters) in 15 March 2016. He carried 58 kilograms for the first time but it was not a matter for him. THE A-TEAM was very happy to show how heavily-supported Danon Legend outclassed his rivals.
Danon Legend would follow the trail same as last year to run in the Tokyo Sprint at NAR's Ohi Racecourse on 6 Apr.

THE A-TEAM's multiple grade one winner Copano Rickey(6yo horse Gold Allure x Copano Nikita) was crowned the Best Dirt Horse in 2015 JRA Awards. This is the first JRA Award reception for THE A-TEAM.
In 2015 Copano Rickey brought us to the winners circle at two grade one races the February Stakes in JRA Tokyo Racecourse and the JBC Classic in NAR's Ooi Racecourse. In both races Copano Rickey repeated his success in 2014.

THE A-TEAM is celebrating our first graded stakes win with Mr. Hajime Satomi, Japan's one of the most prominent owners and a great supporting power for us.

THE A-TEAM's attempt for a double at the JBC was nearly came true when Copano Rickey(5yo horse Gold Allure x Copano Nikita) won JPY80,000,000 Local Grade 1 JBC Classic over 2000 metres on dirt just an hour after his team mate Danon Legend(5yo horse Macho Uno x My Goodness) finished second in JPY60,000,000 Local Grade 1 JBC Sprint over 1200 metres on dirt at NAR's Ooi Racecourse on 3 November.
Danon Legend showed a hard effort in chasing a speedy filly Corin Berry in the home straight but was outclassed by only three quarters of a length to finish second in his first try at Grade 1 races to capture JPY21,000,000.
Last year's JBC Classic winner from THE A-TEAM Copano Rickey once again showed a dominating performance to led all the way in this year's version of the race which decides the dirt champion in Japan. This is the fifth victory for him at Grade 1 races with winning two February Stakes and two JBC Classics as well as a Kashiwa Kinen.
Copano Rickey

Even after his defeat in the last start Hokkaido Sprint Cup, he was again supported as a 1.40 solid favourite in the race.

THE A-TEAM's Danon Legend(5yo horse Macho Uno x My Goodness) satisfied the fans who hugely supported him as an odds on favourite in JPY27,000,000 Local Grade 3 Tokyo Sprint at NAR's Ooi Racecourse in 8 April. It was a first experience of night racing and sloppy track for him but he was capable enough to continue his Graded stakes winning streak to 3 following his victories in Capella Stakes and Kurofune Sho.

Copano Rickey was the first horse in the history to win two consecutive February Stakes. 3 winners of the last 4 February Stakes were trained by THE A-TEAM with stable's old-legend Testa Matta winning in 2012.
It was unfortunate that a minor setback was found on Copano Rickey letting him to have a spell for a while but after a well-deserved rest Copano Rickey will come back to the racecourse in a full shape.

Many thanks for the support and greetings on THE A-TEAM's first memorable victory in JRA Grade 1 races as THE A-TEAM's ace Testa Matta was an impressive winner of the February Stakes over 1600 meters on dirt at Tokyo Racecourse on 19 Feb.

This was the second victory at the Grade 1 races since he won the Japan Dirt Derby at NAR's Ooi Racecourse in Jul 2009. We are the most pleased as Testa Matta finally showed his full ability after overcoming from injury and throat problem which kept him away from winner's circle for quite a while.

Decision should be made after discussing with the owner Mrs. Kazumi Yoshida, but option for him is open including Dubai World Cup on 31 Mar.

Seasonal Greetings from THE A-TEAM!!

We always appreciate all the support for us and try our team's best to further success.

Our promising 3yo colt Silent Saturday is now two times winner and still unbeaten. His next start would be either Yayoi Sho (G2) on 4 March or Spring Stakes (G2) on 18 March as a prep for the Japanese classic races.

THE A-TEAM's Testa Matta made an impressive win in the March Stakes (Grade 3) at Hanshin Racecourse on 10 Mar.
His comeback to the winner's circle was after a long break since he won the local Grade 1 Japan Dirt Derby at Ooi Racecourse on Jul 2009.

In his 1min 50sec flat trip he defeated very classy field including multiple grade race winners like Bravo Daisy, Oro Meister and La Verita. Testa Matta has recorded the fastest final 600m in 35.6 seconds to thrash his rivals by 2 length and a half.

He had overcome multiple setbacks over more than an year. After he ran 3rd in the Urawa Kinen in Dec 2009, he had found with Epiglottic Entrapment which he needed to undergo a surgery. After he ran a brilliant second to the champion dirt horse Espoir City in the February Stakes on Feb 2010, fracture in his right front cannon bone was found and again he had to have a long spell. He also experienced minor muscle setback just prior to his scheduled run in the Kawasaki Kinen forced him to scratch from this local group 1 race.

Akira Murayama, trainer for THE A-TEAM said "I beleived that his capability for racing remains high even after experiencing many setbacks. As he is supported by a lot of racing fans it is very happy to show them that he is as good shape as before."

His next start would probably be in the Teio Sho (local grade 1) at the Ooi Racecourse on 29 Jun. For the Autumn campaign his main target will obviously be the Japan Cup Dirt (Grade 1) on 4 Dec then the option even for running in the US$10million Emirates Dubai World Cup in March 2011.

THE A-TEAM's consistent galloper Three Orion(Opera House - Three Cape) finally get into the open level as he won the Nihonkai Stakes at Niigata Racecourse on 25 July. With this win his career earnings exceeded JPY10,000,000 (approx US$ 1 million).

He now aims at continueing his consistent run in the group races.

Likewise last year, THE A-TEAM has entered him in the Australia's premier handicap Group1 races the BMW Caulfield Cup (20 Oct, turf 2,400 metres at Caulfield Racecource, Australia) and the memorable 150th running of the Emirates Melbourne Cup (2 nov, turf 3,200 metres at Flemington Racecourse , Australia).

A 2010 bred King Kamehameha - Pink Papillon(by SundaySilence) colt, sold at JPY475,000 (approx US$520,000) in the JRHA Select Sale Foal Session is going to join the THE A-TEAM.

The sire King Kamehameha was the winner of the Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby) in 2004 for the proven trainer Kunihide Matsuda. Akira Murayama, the trainer of THE A-TEAM was a trackwork rider for Matsuda and he knows the saddle of King Kamehameha.

It is very pleased to have the very well priced colt at the JRHA Select Sale and THE A-TEAM is exciting to welcome this hopeful colt to our team.

An American-bred 2yo colt by Indian Charlie, out of Uncommon Queen is going to join THE A-TEAM.

This colt is sold at US$675,000 in the Fasig-Tipton Calder Training Sale in 2 Mar 2010.

Akira Murayama, the trainer of THE A-TEAM is very pleased to welcome this very promising colt to our lineup.

Testa Matta (4yo colt, Sire: Tapit, Mare: Difficult) was an eye-catching runner up in the strong field of the February Stakes-G1. THE-A-TEAM has improved our confident as Testa Matta outclassed the last year's winner Success Brocken and came close to the mighty winner Espoir City.

Another great thing for us is that Testa Matta has shown no symptoms of epiglottis entrapment thanks to successful surgical operation.

Unfortunately it has revealed that Testa Matta has a minor fracture in the right carpal bone ending up with not accepting to run in the Godolphin Mile-G2 which he had honorably received an invitation from the Dubai Racing Club.

We now are concentrating on recovering from his injury with future plans for him is being blank but since the trouble is very minor we hope he can come back in shape in near future for promising rest of his racing carrier.

This is another disappointing news for us after the last year's muscle stiffness on Kanetoshi Kosho (Sire: Grandera) which what we had to give up with attempting the UAE Derby-G2 where he had been invited to run.

The time is yet to come, however THE A-TEAM will continue challenging on the tough targets no matter whether in Japan or overseas.

World-famous jockey ANDREAS SUBORICS from Germany came back to Japan as a JRA short-term licensed jockey.
Thanks to friendship between Andreas Suborics and Akira Murayama, THE A-TEAM has welcomed him as a sponsor trainer.

Hokko Pas de Chat, a prominent runner from THE A-TEAM has captured a first title in the Graded Stakes as he won the photo-finished Niigata Kinen (Grade 3) in the Niigata Racecourse on 30 August.

This victory is not only at the single race, but also raised Hokko Pas de Chat to the champion in the "Summer 2000 Series", the series of Graded stakes races over 2000 meters.

This is the third successive eye-catching run for Hokko Pas de Chat at the Graded stakes level as following third placegetting by less than a half length in the Tanabata Sho (Grade 3) and a ruuner-up by a nose in the Kokura Kinen (Grade 3).
THE A-TEAM is proud of the effort that Hokko Pas de Chat has shown in these three races in the season of extreme heat. We also would like to express our sincerest appreciation for all the supporters and for the former trainer Mr. Mitsumasa Hamada and his team, who have trained Hokko Pas de Chat until March this year.

THE A-TEAM has planned to bring Hokko Pas de Chat to Australia for the Tatts Cox Plate at the Mooney Valley, Melbourne in 24 October. However, due to the quarantine protocols being unsettled, his first attempt in the Grade 1 level is likely to be the Tenno Sho Autumn at the Tokyo Racecourse in 1 November.

10 Million Japanese Yen (approx US$100,000) of the prizemoney for the Summer 2000 Series Champion is awarded to THE A-TEAM. We will reinvest an entire part of this fund for our horse's welfare. The mist-atomizing system in the barn will be one of the investments that THE A-TEAM is going to implement thanks to the bonus that Hokko Pas de Chat has given to us.

The mist-atomizing system is a common feature among the stables in Japan. The system not only works in cooling-down the barns in the summer season, but also prevents troubles in horse's respiratory system that often being contributed from dry environment. We hope that with the new misting system the horses in the THE A-TEAM can have more comfort in the stable and can show further improvement in their performance.
